Canvas Floating Frame Course
Time 10am – 4pm
Cost £160
This training course is designed for people who would like to learn how to make floating frames for canvas pictures that have already been stretched over a wooden
stretcher frame. The tray frames are designed to have a 3mm shadow gap between the canvas and the frame. This gap will give the impression that the canvas is floating inside the frame.
On this course you will learn how to:
Measure your picture and fill out a worksheet plan.
Transfer the measurements onto the tray frame.
Mitre cut the tray frame
Glue and V-Nail the tray frame.
Advice on additional steps on painting the frame.
Assemble the frame to complete your picture.
You will need to bring a stretched canvas or canvas board picture to frame for this course. Do let me know before the course whether it is a stretched canvas or a canvas board.
The material costs are based on one three-meter length of frame so the maximum size of picture that can be accommodated is 24 inches by 30 inches (610mm by 762mm). Larger sizes can be accommodated on the course however they will need two three-meter lengths of frame and so the material costs will be higher.
On this course you will construct a tray frame and have plenty of time to practice. Please let me know the size of your canvas picture, in millimetres that you would like to frame so that I can work out the length of the tray frame required.
Tray frames on this course are made from obeche wood which will suit most pictures. Other pictures may will look better in a painted black or white frame, in fact any colour that you have in mind. While your frame is waiting for the glue to dry you will be given more information about tray frame painting and advice on where you can buy the paint locally.
