Reg and Phyllis Sheppard started Christchurch Carpets back in 1947 in Purewell, Christchurch, just after the war. From humble beginnings, they started offering second-hand furniture, cutlery and knickknacks but soon realised there was a strong demand for second hand carpets and rugs. It wasn't long before they were supplying and fitting carpet throughout Christchurch and the surrounding areas, the first carpet shop in the area.
It was when John, their eldest son, joined the family business that the business started to diversify and really went from strength to strength. John soon realised a passion for Old Persian rugs and carpets and was intrigued by the different styles and qualities of certain rugs. Christchurch Carpets now have the largest collection of old Persian carpets and rugs in the UK, offering a huge choice from small decorative mats to large room size carpets.
Now, the company is run by Reg and Phyllis' grandson, Tom and the company has continued to strive forward, offering an incredible choice of floor coverings, to suit everyone’s needs.
